Anyone else constantly getting caught in the trap of believing that your to-do list is almost done? I am a huge proponent of teaching kids independence in play and otherwise. I also feel strongly that adulting needs to happen around kids to make for a better balance for all. BUT it’s also been almost 7 YEARS since my entire to-do list was “complete” and I’m just finally realizing that if I keep making my kids wait until I’m finished with what I’m doing before I play with them, that rich play may never happen with me as a part of it. So my promise this season to myself, my family, and to my playful community is that I am going to start responding to my kids whenever I can with the answer “yes!” and putting my to-do list on hold instead of them.
